• Born: 16 November 1974, Salford • Signed: 8 July 1991 (as trainee) • Fee: N / A • Other Previous Clubs: N / A • Debut: 24 September 1994 v Ipswich (A) Premiership • International Team: England (retired) Paul Scholes signed for United on trainee terms on 8 July 1991 and turned professional 18 months later on 23 January 1993. The young midfielder showed much promise in the youth and reserve teams, winning an FA Youth Cup runners-up medal in the 1993. Scholes missed out on a winners medal the previous year as part of the 'Class of '92' team due to injury. He was also a member of the England Under-18 team which won the European Championships in 1993. Scholes' much publicised goalscoring drought for England came to an end in Euro 2004 as he headed in against Croatia. It proved to be his final international strike, as he announced his retirement from England shortly after they exited the tournament. Scholesey is held in the highest regard across Europe for his intelligent play, and remains one of the most technically gifted players to have ever represented United.
